Sydney Olympic Park sets new framework for urban sustainability with updated Environmental Guidelines.
Sydney Olympic Park is reaffirming its leadership in environmental excellence with the release of updated Environmental Guidelines—setting a new framework for sustainable urban development in the suburb.
Building on its legacy as the host of the world’s first “Green Games” in 2000, the draft guidelines will shape the Authority’s environmental and sustainability objectives in accordance with the SOPA Act. These comprehensive goals align with the strategic vision of the draft Master Plan 2050 to produce practical and measurable outcomes that support climate resilience and long-term sustainability.
Aligned with the Sydney Olympic Park Authority Regulation 2018 and the Parklands Plan of Management, the draft Environmental Guidelines are a cornerstone of the Master Plan 2050’s implementation. They ensure that future developments—including new homes, jobs, and public spaces—meet the highest standards.
"Sydney Olympic Park's draft Environmental Guidelines will ensure the precinct continues to lead the way in delivering new sustainable development that benefits future generations," said Chief Executive of Sydney Olympic Park Authority, Neisha D’Souza.
"These guidelines are key to achieving the ambitious goals of the Master Plan 2050 and cementing Sydney Olympic Park's status as a global leader in environmental management and sustainability."
The draft guidelines reflect extensive input from stakeholders and the community through the draft Master Plan exhibition process, helping to refine the Park’s environmental objectives and ensure they meet the needs of a growing and diverse population.
They also reinforce Sydney Olympic Park Authority’s commitment to maintaining its prestigious 6 Star Green Star Community certification awarded by the Green Building Council of Australia.
The draft Environmental Guidelines will be on public exhibition from 28 July to 25 August 2025 and the community is invited to provide feedback and help shape the future of Sydney Olympic Park.
